Hands-on implementation

St. Clair County Historical Society

The problem
The Society needed ways to help people discover and explore local history online.
My solution
I implemented website improvements and produced and maintained history content, including the Interactive Map of Historical Places in St. Clair County, IL.
The result
The map has received more than 6,000 views since late 2025, giving the Society a way to share local history beyond its physical spaces.

Website development & strategic guidance

Love Rules All

The problem
The founder of a new nonprofit needed a website to share news about the organization, gauge interest, and establish contact with interested parties, including potential board members.
My solution
I worked with the client for several months to define the site's needs, then refined the design over several iterations until we settled on one the client loves. View the Love Rules All website.
The result
A website the client loves that has received positive feedback from users, plus a basic site the organization can build on as it grows.

My Approach

I believe technology should help organizations carry out their mission with confidence. My aim is to make technology understandable, useful, and sustainable, so the choices you make today support the work you want to do tomorrow.

As an independent IT consultant with nine years of experience, I work with boards, directors, and owners to understand their organization's mission, resources, and limitations. Together, we translate technical concerns into practical knowledge and informed decisions, balancing immediate needs with long-term goals.

I start by listening to the people doing the work and making room for questions. I explain the options and tradeoffs in plain language, so we can agree on priorities and make decisions that fit your budget and capacity. Throughout our work together, I keep expectations clear and revisit decisions as your needs change.

My Experiences

St. Clair County Historical Society

While serving as vice president of the SWIC IT Club, I started a service project to rebuild the St. Clair County Historical Society website. The site was built using HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and custom PHP. I combined waterfall and agile methodologies to guide the club through the project. View the archived website at launch.

Shiloh Village School District

At Shiloh Village School District, I provided the following services:

  • Provided desktop support for approximately 600 users and 1,000 devices in Windows, Linux, and ChromeOS environments.

  • Maintained and deployed network infrastructure, including switches, DHCP, DNS, and the gateway, while serving as a network administrator. Managed Active Directory users and group policies.

  • Deployed and maintained FTP, syslog, print, and imaging servers.

  • Conducted a proof-of-concept Nagios implementation, demonstrating improved network visibility and faster troubleshooting.

  • Documented network topology and internal processes to support institutional continuity.

St. Clair County Historical Society

In 2020, the St. Clair County Historical Society launched a fundraising campaign to renovate the building that would become its research library and main offices. I created a campaign website and communicated regularly with stakeholders and the executive director about project goals and milestones. After the campaign ended, I incorporated the campaign content into the main website. View the campaign website on the Wayback Machine.

Madison County Transit

As an IT support specialist at Madison County Transit, I:

  • Managed Jira-based help desk operations.

  • Diagnosed and documented issues, improving reliability and supporting infrastructure planning.

  • Rebuilt RAID 5 arrays.

Belleville Labor & Industry Museum

As a board member and IT consultant, I led the website redesign and vendor selection process, presented recommendations to the board, and guided implementation of a new WordPress-based site built by external developers. I serve as the primary technical liaison with the hosting provider and oversee ongoing updates and site management. I support the development of data retention and records management policies and promote cybersecurity best practices, including endpoint protection and safe email handling, among staff and volunteers.

St. Clair County Historical Society

I improved search engine optimization (SEO), website accessibility, including full keyboard navigation, and mobile responsiveness. I develop dynamic content features to improve long-term maintainability and reduce staff workload, and collaborate with leadership to explore augmented reality applications using AR.js for interactive museum exhibits. I produce and maintain web content for public engagement; the Interactive Map of Historical Places in St. Clair County, IL has received more than 6,000 views since late 2025.

Love Rules All (Startup Nonprofit)

I built a WordPress website for an early-stage nonprofit, working with the founder through several design iterations to share the organization's news, gauge interest, and connect with potential board members. I continue to support future updates and provide strategic guidance on foundational digital infrastructure and long-term scalability. View the Love Rules All website.

St. Clair County Historical Society

While developing dynamic content features, I determined that the Society should have a comprehensive cybersecurity policy. I worked with the executive director to draft the policy and prepare it for board approval. In fall 2026, I also developed a Ticket Tailor API integration for the website, allowing visitors to buy tickets for upcoming events directly on the site.

Personal Portfolio

I created this online portfolio to showcase my work and document my projects. I will use it to experiment with different technologies and approaches.

My Goals

I want to expand my IT consulting work in digital humanities by helping museums, historical societies, and similar organizations use technology to share their stories, missions, and collections.

I also want to continue expanding my technological horizons by learning new tools and processes, with particular interest in emerging technologies such as artificial intelligence and augmented reality. At the same time, I want to strengthen my understanding of established concepts such as IT architecture and cloud computing.
